BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

August 1, 2009
The meeting was called to order by President, Steve Ballentine at 3:20 pm.
The following were present and constituted a quorum: Steve Cothran, Jane Simmons, Michele Jenkins, Fred Bieber, Doug Gaddis, Jill Simmons, Bob Brantley, Mary
Bynum, Sharon Bieber, Rick Cunningham, and Doug Bennink.
Board Members not in attendance: Elliott Fayssoux
Staff present: Van Taylor and Nancy Shultz
Doug G. made a motion
to approve the minutes from the June 7, 2009 SC Youth Soccer BOD meeting as
amended. Jane seconded the motion.

Bob made a motion to
approve the minutes from the July 1, 2009 BOD teleconference
meeting. Jane seconded the motion.

PRESIDENT: Steve Ballentine
- Bob
Singer was elected as the new Region III Director and Lance Chaple was re-elected as Region III Deputy Director.
- Evelyn
Swissler announced her retirement as the Region
III President’s Cup Director and Pearse Tormey was announced as her successor.
- ODP
Regional Championships will be held in New Orleans, LA
next year.
- The
2010 Region III President’s Cup will be held in Tulsa, OK.
- Evelyn
Gill was re-elected as Vice President of US Youth Soccer.
- The
2010 US Youth Soccer National Championships will be held in Kansas.
- The
USSF AGM will be held in New
Orleans, LA
February 5-6, 2010.
- The US
Youth Soccer Adidas Workshop will be held in Ft. Worth, TX on February 23-27, 2010.
- THE US
Youth Soccer AGM will be held in Overland
Park, Kansas
July 19-25, 2010.
- Thanked
everyone for the hard work and presentations at the President’s Workshop.

Steve Cothran
- There
are 300 teams registered in our leagues, the most since we dropped the U11
and U12 age group.
- We
placed 7 teams in the quarterfinals at the Southern Regional
Championships. Two teams won the
championship: CESA U16 Boys Premier and Discoveries U18 Boys Green.
REGISTRATION:
Jane Simmons
- Working
with Demosphere.
- Cards/rosters
will start to be printed next week.
PIEDMONT DISTRICT
COMMISSIONER: Elliott Fayssoux
MIDSTATE DISTRICT
COMMISSIONER: Sharon Bieber
- Thanked
the board for her attendance at the National Championships.
COASTAL DISTRICT
COMMISSIONER: Jill Simmons
- Represented
SC Youth Soccer at the Women’s National match at Blackbaud
Stadium.
- New
Coastal District Vice Commissioner is Lana
Darling.
- Lower State Youth Soccer League will be
affiliating again this year and has a brand new board.
STATE ODP
ADMINISTRATOR: Mary Bynum
- 1994
ODP Boys and Girls teams qualified for the ODP Regional Championship in New Orleans, LA.
Mary made a motion
that SC Youth Soccer fund up to $4000/team in expenses for staff and teams to
attend the Region III ODP Championships in New Orleans. Fred seconded the motion.

RULES &
COMPLIANCE: Bob Brantley
- Received
and reviewed all bylaws and name changes.
Thanked his committee for their hard work.
STATE YOUTH
RECREATION DIRECTOR: Doug Gaddis
- Update
on US Youth Soccer Month.
MEMBER AT LARGE:
Fred Bieber
- Discussed
referees that were stranded returning from Regionals.
- Filled
referee positions at ODP Camps.
STAFF REPORTS:
DIRECTOR OF COACHING
& PLAYER DEVELOPMENT: Van Taylor
- Full
slate of coaching courses – information can be found on website.
- Thanked
Bill Conway, team doctor, for all his help at the Boys ODP Camp.
MODIFICATION TO THE
CONSTITUTION & BYLAWS:
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
- Discussed
coaches involved in non SC Youth Soccer events/program. Tabled discussion until October meeting.
ELECTIONS:
- Jane
Simmons was re-elected as Registrar.
- Doug
Gaddis was re-elected as Recreation Director.
- Fred Bieber was re-elected as Member at Large.
NEW BUSINESS:
- Congratulated
CESA on an outstanding job of hosting the Region III President’s Cup.
- Congratulated
CESA U16B Premier on their bronze medal at the National Championships.
- Congratulated
Discoveries U18B Green on winning the National Championship.
Michele made a motion
to adjourn. Mary seconded the motion.
