2006 SCYSA Publix Parent of the
Year Award
Publix, the official grocery store
of SCYSA soccer, was on hand this year to honor this year’s
award winner. Nothing is more important in our communities
than strong parenting and leadership for our young ones.
With today’s busy schedules for both children and their
parents, it takes extensive planning and commitment to
maintain an active role in our children’s lives. It’s
for this reason that SCYSA takes the opportunity to celebrate
those who go above and beyond their role as parents, those
who demonstrate an ability to balance all those things
in life that are collectively referred to as “family values.”
This year marks the sixth year this award
has been bestowed on a South Carolina parent, but the
award by no means is exclusive to one individual; rather,
the award represents the commitment of so many South Carolina
parents who devote so much to their children both on and
off the pitch. However, when someone illustrates to the
organization a level of dedication and steadfastness in
allegiance to his or her family, SCYSA is honored to commemorate
this individual at our annual Awards Banquet.
Like
many parents, coaching a son or daughter’s teams is both
an honor and a lot of work. But when Stephen Clyburn came
to the attention of the Association, something special
was immediately apparent. Not only does Stephen help his
own children, he’s also a traveling do-gooder for those
children who are less fortunate than most. He travels
extensively producing procedures that assist children
in foster care when he is not with his own children as
a coach. Stephen is a father and an excellent role model
for his children and their friends. He is committed to
the sport, but he’s more committed to the kids who play
it. His family celebrates his strong character as a role
model who demonstrates patience, caring, understanding,
honesty and compassion.
Stephen believes that coaching gives him
the opportunity to spend quality time interacting with
his children and their friends, and gives his children
the understanding of how involved their dad enjoys being
a part of their lives. His sincerity is apparent every
day.
On behalf of Publix, Stephen Clyburn represents
an ideal in our soccer communities, an ideal demonstrated
by his dedication to South Carolina’s children. He enjoys
life and its surroundings and loves his family. SCYSA
is extremely proud to present to Stephen Clyburn the 2006
Publix Parent of the Year award.
