2006 SCYSA Young Female Referee
of the Year
Demanding respect from one’s elders
is something that must be attained through flawless performance,
consistent actions and unyielding confidence. When Kristi
Tempel centers U19 matches and assists men’s amateur games
she not only demands respect from the older players on
the field, she also keeps those in the stands impressed
and reverential toward her performance.
Kristi has performed exceptionally off
the field as well where she maintains her school work
while participating in school and volunteer activities.
At school she excels at cross country and has played varsity
soccer for 3 years. The Beta Club and Math Team exhibit
her aptitude in the classroom and she’s a National Honor
Roll member as well as a member of the Who’s Who Among
High School Students.
Kristi’s knowledge of the game has been
demonstrated by her performance as a top-level player
as well as a perennial “high 90s” scorer on the annual
referee re-certification exam. She has a tremendous amount
of experience for her age, having worked several hundred
games since her initial certification 5 years ago. Kristi
has the same maturity, discipline and judgment of many
of the best adult Assistant Referees in South Carolina.
She’s refereed SCYSA Challenge and Classic State Cup games
for five years running—ten Spring and Fall seasons—where
she has received numerous positive assessments. She was
the only female referee assigned final round matches at
this fall’s SCYSA Challenge Cup.
It seems the only limitation to her success
has been her age, but having just turned 17 she can now
pursue an upgrade to a Grade 7 Referee. Kristi Tempel
has clearly demonstrated her ability and has unmatched
experience worthy of this high honor. As one of many referees
in her family, she embodies success in our South Carolina
refereeing community. Although she’ll be off to college
next year to pursue prestigious degrees, SCYSA is fortunate
to call Kristi Tempel one of their own and looks forward
to many years of stellar performance on the soccer pitch
as she continues to enforce the rules of the game.
Advanced beyond her years in regard to
her knowledge of soccer, it’s with great pleasure that
SCYSA names Kristi this year’s SCYSA Young Referee of
the Year.
