2006 Young Male Referee of the
Year
Professional. Polite. Willing
to Assist. Courteous. Trustworth. Reliable. The list of
compliments imparted on Kenneth Johnson at this year’s
Annual Award Luncheon read like something out of a book
on the perfect kid. But this praise just begins to describe
what Kenny is all about. His motivation in learning and
enforcing the laws of the game prove that not only is
he all these things, but he’s motivated to command respect
in the years to come and to excel beyond all expectations
put upon him by his supportive friends and family who
already know of his strengths.
As any parent will tell, criticism is
something that our youth rarely accept with ease. But
Kenny’s referee instructors have repeatedly pointed out
not only his willingness to accept assessment but to turn
around these evaluations and produce real change to his
refereeing game. Always showing an eagerness to learn
and evolve as a participant in the game of soccer, SCYSA
believes this character attribute is one that elevates
him above the rest.
Leadership is something that comes naturally
to Kenneth Johnson. Kenny was class president last year
and is the sports editor at his high school newspaper.
On Saturdays, along with refereeing, he works for the
city of Greenville and does many community works. His
outreach will go beyond South Carolina this summer when
Kenny travels to Brazil for a month of church work through
his affiliation with a local church.
A
referee since 2002, his short time as a referee demonstrates
an ability to step up to a challenge and deliver himself
into a position of achievement and professionalism. South
Carolina Referee Assignors have lauded his achievements
and Kenny continues to be one of the favorites in the
tightly knit community of South Carolina referees.
It’s always a pleasure to have our children
involved in the game of soccer, but those who go beyond
the simple pleasures of watching or playing the game,
those who educate themselves and work to know the game
inside and out are the ones who make soccer happen in
our state.
South Carolina Youth Soccer Association
is pleased to present this award to Kenneth Johnson, the
2006 Young Referee of the Year.
