About SCYSA Coaches and Mandated Certification
In February 2005, SCYSA BOD approved and mandated certification and licensing courses to provide quality instruction for our coaches and quality development for our players. This certification requirement will become effective on September 1, 2006.
Notice of these mandatory coaching requirements has been advertised, published and communicated to all SCYSA affiliated organization for more than a year, and numerous courses have been offered and provided throughout the state to allow everyone access to this training.
However, as we approach this deadline some individuals seem to be unaware of the new coaching certification and licensing requirements. Please review these requirements as summarized below.
The “head coach” listed on the SCYSA State Roster must be certified in accordance with the schedule noted below. All other individuals listed on the SCYSA State Roster must have completed the US Youth Soccer Youth Module Certification.
Team managers listed on the SCYSA State Roster will be required to have a
US Youth Soccer Youth Module Certification; however, team managers are not required to be on the SCYSA State Roster. Only those persons listed on the SCYSA Official State Roster are required to comply with these requirements.
Numerous certification and licensing courses are scheduled between now and September 1, 2006 to allow everyone the opportunity to complete the required courses. Please visit our certification page to determine the time and location for the course nearest you. It is not likely that any more certification course can be scheduled until after September 1st.
