State Cup Success!
Running around was not just a characteristic of South Carolina's best soccer players this past weekend ... the volunteers who came together for another successful State Cup weekend also completed an amazing race! With so many venues to cover and so many games, it was crucial that the Cup run like clockwork. The referees performed with professionalism and the Columbia United volunteers were willing and ready to assist at the fields in anyway possible.
Many thanks goes to all the positive contributions made.

President’s Cup Region III TournamentDuring June 8-10, 2007 several South Carolina players, coaches, parents and siblings traveled to Tampa, Florida to participate in this tournament. The boys’ matches were played at the Ed Radice Soccer Complex while the girls’ matches were played at the University of Southern Florida Soccer Complex. Over 20,000 players attended this event. Initially two teams, one boy’s and one girl’s, from each state were invited. Region III consists of these states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, North Texas and South Texas. State Representatives from only four of those states were present: South Texas, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. These state Board of Directors are there to aid their state teams in any way possible during the tournament.
South Carolina had a boys and girls team in each U13, U14, U15, U16, and U17 division.

Each of our teams represented SC Youth Soccer well! Our scores were competitive with all of the states that we played - even the big states! Players, coaches, and parents displayed lots of spirit and good sportsmanship even though the weather tried to put a damper on the games. After many lightning delays we had two teams, the U13 girls Aiken Fireballs and the U17 boys Summerville 89 Blue that advanced to the semi-finals. With both teams playing their hearts out, the U17 boys Summerville 89 Blue advanced to the finals. Then on Sunday the finals were held with Summerville paired with South Texas. What a match! Each team had a fair share of chances but in the end South Texas came out on top with a 4-0 result. I can’t let this opportunity go by without telling everyone what a great job they did for South Carolina Youth Soccer!
Michele Jenkins (Piedmont District Commissioner), Sharon Bieber (Mid-state Commissioner), and Jane Simmons (State Registrar) were delighted to represent SC Youth Soccer and our teams during this event. We were honored to say, “That team is from South Carolina!”

Cups & Games ArchiveFall 2005 State CupsThe fall 2005 State Cups were played November 19-20 and December 3-4. The classic and American cup competitions were held in Greenville at the Pittman, Wenwood and MESA soccer complexes and the Challenge Cup held at the MESA complex. With no club coming forward to host the events, the SCYSA board took on the task of hosting and running the event with CESA providing the fields and the facilities. Both weekends were filled with great competition and excellent sportsmanship. For complete games results and scores go to:

American Cup and Classic CupThe Classic Cup and the American Cup were held November 19-20 with the U15 and U16 classic boys returning December 3 for their championship match. There were a total of 75 teams, 21 recreation teams and 54 classic teams. The weather was a bit cool in the mornings but the rest of the day was beautiful. All the championship matches were close with the U18B classic, U16B Classic, and U19G recreation going to two overtimes and then, still tied, to take pentalty kicks to determine a winner. Congratulations to all the Champions and good luck to the Classic teams when they will travel to Huntsville, Alabama June 9 thru 11, 2006 to play in the Region III Presidents Cup.
Challenge CupThe Challenge Cup final four matches were held December 3-4. The 32 teams that advanced from the first round matches November 12 converged on the MESA complex to compete not only for the State Challenge Cup Championship and a berth in the Region III tournament in June, but also a berth in 2006 Region III Premier League. The weather was good on Saturday but took a turn for the worse on Sunday with the afternoon U18 boys and girls matches experiencing a one hour delay for lightning. The teams returned to the field and finished their matches in a cold drizzle.
Teams winning Saturdays’ matches would qualify for a berth in the 2006 Region III Premier league and competition was intense. The U17 Boys division was the only group in which both Fall 2006 Region III premier teams survived. Saturdays’ games produced 5 new teams that qualified for the Fall 2006 Region III Premier league. Sundays’ championship matches were as equally intense with the U15 Boys and U16 Boys going into overtime and the U16 Boys having to decide the champion with kicks.
Congratulations to all the champions and good luck in the Region III Championships that will be held June 29 thru July 5 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

President’s Cup Region III TournamentThis past June several South Carolina players, coaches, parents, and siblings traveled to Decatur and Huntsville, Alabama to attend the Region III President’s Cup Tournament. This was the first time that Alabama had hosted the tournament. Decatur’s Jack Allen Southwest Recreation Complex along with Jack Hunt Park in Huntsville co-hosted the three day event. About 2,500 players attend this event from all over the southeastern United States. Region III consists of teams from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, North Texas and South Texas.
South Carolina had a boys and a girls team in U14, U15, U16, U17 and a boy's team in U18. The U14 boys team was represented by the NECSA Cosmos while the girls team was from Anderson Soccer Academy Bulldogs. The U15 boys team was from Aiken Soccer Club Ice while the girls came from Foothills Soccer Club of Greer (Blue Ice). CESA 89 Classic I represented the U16 boys and Summerville Soccer Club 89 Blue represented the girls. The CESA 88 Boys Classic team and the Discoveries 88 Lady Green represented our U17 teams. The Greenwood Toros Stampede rounded out our U18 team.
All of our teams represented SCYSA well. Our scores were competitive with all of the states that we played, even the big states! Players and coaches displayed lots of spirit and good sportsmanship. Four of our teams advanced to the quarter finals, and one to the semi-finals. SCYSA is very proud of all our teams! A special thank you goes out to the parents that took the time to drive their players to Alabama for this event. Your children are to be commended on their attitude and behavior during this event.
Michele Jenkins, Piedmont District Commissioner, and I, Jane Simmons, State Registrar, were delighted to represent SCYSA and our teams during this event. Both of us were honored to say, “That team is from SC!”
