SCYSA Coaches' License Descriptions

National Youth License Module – Level I Certificate
This is a three-hour course. The curriculum includes the physical, psychological and social characteristics displayed by the children of the specific age of Under-6 and Under-8. PREREQUISITE: None

National Youth License Module – Level II Certificate
This is a three-hour course. The curriculum includes the physical, psychological and social characteristics displayed by the children of the specific age of Under-8 and Under-10. PREREQUISITE: None

National Youth License Module – Level III Certificate
This is a three-hour course. The curriculum includes the physical, psychological and social characteristics displayed by the children of the specific age of Under-10 and Under-12. PREREQUISITE: None

National Youth License Module - General Certificate
SCYSA offers three levels of Youth Module courses for beginner coaches. In addition to the three Youth Module courses Leve1 U6-U8, Level II U8-U10 and Level III U10-U12, a General Certificate course is offered to assist the beginner youth soccer coach. This is a three-hour course in duration that covers topics such as the Art of Coaching, Learning through Game Activities, Successful Player Development, Philosophy of Coaching, and the use of Small Sided Games. With the implementation of mandatory coaching education beginning this year this course will not only assist the beginner coach but will meet the minimum coaching requirements for these age groups.

State License – “E” Level Certificate
This is a general certificate for coaches working with beginning players or players participating in 11v 11 soccer for the first time. The Course is eighteen hours (12 field, 6 classroom). Recommended for coaches working with players that are primarily U-12 and U-14. Activities are more group and team oriented. This course is also preparatory for the “D” course. A written exam is given at the end of the course. PREREQUISITE: None
Schedule: Friday – 6pm-9pm|Saturday – 8:30am-6pm|Sunday – 1pm-4pm

State License – “D” Level Certificate
This is a prerequisite to attend the National Coaching School. The course is thirty-six hours (24 field, 12 classroom). It is designed for coaches working at the premiere level with players 14 years and older. Both written and practical coaching exams are given. Candidates completing this course will receive either a “Certificate of Completion”, a “State Level ‘D’ License”, or a “National Level ‘D’ License, “based on exam scores. PREREQUISITE: ‘E’ required.
Schedule: Friday – 6pm-9pm| Saturday – 8:30am-6pm| Sunday – 1pm – 4-m

National License – “C” License
The curriculum for the “C” course is based upon modern methods of coaching soccer and provides coaches with an understanding of the methodology used in our national coaching courses by US Soccer. The curriculum is divided into theory and practical areas of coaching. The “C” course is designed to assist coaches improve their ability to identify problems within the game and create meaningful training sessions that address problems found. The course will enhance the coach’s ability to observe the game, evaluate individual and team performances, construct appropriate training sessions to educate their players, and finally, assess the effect that the training has had on the players. PREREQUISITE: National Level “D” License.

SCYSA Coaches’ Requirements

Module/License requirements are mandatory for ALL SC Youth Soccer Coaches.
Any NEW coaches to SC Youth Soccer will receive a seasonal year grace period.
