SC Youth Soccer Vice President's Report
In its 30th year, South Carolina Youth Soccer continues to make strides to improve the quality of the programs offered to our members. We have continued to do this through the dedication and hard work of our volunteers who make up our South Carolina Youth Soccer Board of Directors. These dedicated volunteers continue to do the work that other states pay full-time staff to do. These hard working individuals provide South Carolina Youth Soccer with countless hours of “free” time and energy. Just a few of the programs provided our members are. >>MORE

Kicking News in the Piedmont District
Spring is on the way. It is evident when you go to the soccer complexes in the area and see the kids out playing soccer. When reading the local newspapers, you will find news articles and pictures of soccer from around the area. It's always fun to watch the small-sided games and then go to a U18 game and see how the game develops. What a great game! >>MORE

Soccer for Life - A Letter
Being a military family we moved from state to state frequently — soccer became the common thread for our children. Being able to join a team — whether it was U6 or U18, recreation or classic — soccer gave my children a place to be accepted and to make friends.

Most importantly, we never worried about what level they played or whether there would be a college scholarship involved, we simply let them play. We travelled frequently to tournaments and games in and out of state, which gave us a chance to bond as a family (wasn't always easy with the husband away for months at a time). Many holidays were spent playing soccer and trying to figure out how to get one player to Atlanta while the other was in Charlotte. Yet we managed to do this as a family.

By getting involved myself, I made many friends throughout the soccer community — friends you could count on when things were good or bad. I found that by volunteering I received as much as I gave. My children competed with different clubs and schools at different levels. As they got older, soccer provided friendships that continued. One child played at the college club level and travelled to different states and colleges while making lifelong friends. He still plays soccer (indoor and out) as often as he can, and his best friends are ones he made while playing soccer. The other child now has her own child playing soccer and hopefully will experience the same rewards I did by being a part of the soccer experience.

So when your child plays soccer, make the most of it — volunteer, travel, and let the kids have fun.

That makes soccer a sport for life.
