The SCYSA recently hosted a US Soccer “C” License coaching education course held on the campus of Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina. The course was conducted May 10-13 and 17-20, 2007. Thirty five coaches from seven states attend the course participating in both classroom and field activities. >>MORE

Mandatory SC Youth Soccer State Council Meeting, Presidents’ Workshop, & Awards
The SC Youth Soccer State Council Meeting, Presidents’ Workshop and Thirtieth Anniversary Awards Luncheon will be held August 4, 2007, from 9:00am - 4:00pm at the Embassy Suites in Columbia. This function is mandatory and every affiliated Club and League must have their President or designated officer in attendance. Registration occurs 8:00am – 9:00am with meetings to follow. The SC Youth Soccer State Council meeting will hold scheduled elections for the positions of SC Youth Soccer Vice President and Treasurer.

President's Report 2007
This year marks the 30th anniversary of SC Youth Soccer, and we continue to provide the highest quality soccer programs in South Carolina. To help celebrate our 30th anniversary, SC Youth Soccer has developed and approved a new logo to better represent and market our organization. We believe this new logo will go a long way to help us “Celebrate our Past and Chart our Future” for the next 30 years.
Our Leagues, State Cups, National Championships and ODP programs allow teams and individuals players to participate at all levels of competition and advance to their highest echelon with everyone competing on a level playing field. These are without a doubt the best soccer programs available in South Carolina and we will continue to keep them that way. >>MORE

SCYSA President's Corner
2007 SOUTHERN REGIONAL TOURNAMENT - RAIN, RAIN and more RAIN … that was the order of the day for the 2007 Southern Regional Tournament. Record breaking rains in Oklahoma City made for extreme playing conditions during this year’s tournament. Muddy fields, schedule changes and shortened game times kept players and fans on their heels, on the alert and in the mud.

For coaches and administrators who know that summer is well in swing, it is time to reflect and think about next season. Please take time to check the SCYSA website for coaching education classes that may apply to you if you're moving up with your recreational team. Also, please review the grants from USYSA that may be available to your club and program. TOPSoccer and Soccer Start grants for equipment and other needs-based items are available from USYSA. All the registration workshops have been completed, and it is now time to see how much was retained from those meetings. SC Youth Soccer has several new registrars this year. Piedmont District News
Publix has generously contributed tents to South Carolina Youth Soccer Association. All clubs will be notified of their tent allotment. The allotment is based on the # of players registered with South Carolina Youth Soccer Association. The tents for the Piedmont District Clubs will be distributed from MeSa at 1020 Anderson Ridge Road, Greer SC 29651. Please call the CESA office to make arrangements for pickup any day the week of 8/13/07. The CESA office phone number is 329-1113 and they are open Monday thru Friday 9:00am - 3:00pm. The Piedmont District would like to thank CESA for helping in the distribution of the tents. >>MORE

Mid-State District News
The Mid-State District would like to welcome two new clubs: Lancaster Futbol Club, President Sal Estrada; and Kershaw County Soccer, President James Davis. One club has changed its name from Tega Cay Soccer Club to Carolina Select Soccer Club. The new President is Stephen Nall.

ODP in South Carolina
SC Youth Soccer ODP Coaches are available to speak to your teams in the next few weeks about the Olympic Development Program tryouts for 2008. Girls ODP will tryout in November and Boys ODP in December—please check the State calendar for dates. Tryouts are MANDATORY for any player on the path to making a SC Youth Soccer State ODP Team. Sub Regional Region III ODP
Region III 1994 Girls ODP Sub Regional Region III ODP and State ODP staff coaches came together at USC-Upstate for the 1994 Girls Sub Regional in June. This is a time for the youngest age-eligible group of Girls to compete with different states and strive for the "Coaches Choice" game on Saturday night in the Stadium under the lights. The State coaches see the depth of the future talent and are all busy helping with training and coaching games with players they have been looking forward to meeting again in the atmosphere of scheduled games. >>MORE

 

NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED
U. S. Youth Soccer has a ban on alcoholic beverages at all soccer matches. This ban is strictly enforced within South Carolina Youth Soccer Association and offenders could face possible fines, suspensions, or expulsions. This prohibition on alcohol is in effect at all fields and extends throughout the entire soccer complex, including the parking lots.
 
SCYSA RISK MANAGEMENT
As provided in the SCYSA Risk Management guidelines, SCYSA continues to conduct background checks on their coaches and volunteers. Through this effort, we hope to eliminate individuals with a criminal history that would pose a threat to any of our members.
