2012 SC Publix President’s Medal Cup Comes to an End
South Carolina News
Greenville, SC- The 2012 South Carolina Youth Soccer Publix President’s Medal Cup took place this past weekend in Greenville at the Pittman Park Soccer Complex and the Wenwood Soccer Complex. Players in the U13 and U14 age groups competed for the chance to compete in the President’s Medal Cup Southern Regional in Greensboro, North Carolina this coming June.
Registration on Friday night was met by the sight of heavy rain. The only thing the coaches, players and volunteers present at MeSA Friday night could do was hope that all of the rain would be finished before Saturday morning’s early start. To everyone’s relief the new day brought no rain. The morning sky was covered in clouds and the weather was perfect for a great day of soccer. The high level of play at both Pittman and Wenwood demonstrated to all those watching that every team was looking to play hard and finish their seasons off on a strong note. Saturday ended with great drama at Pittman Park. The last time slot of the day had two games that required kicks from the mark (PKs) to determine who would win their flight and advance to the semifinals. A game PUFC 97 Girls Gold and CESA Anderson 97 Girls required a game tying goal with less than 10 seconds left in the second half to force the kicks from the mark.
Championship Sunday started out just as hot as Saturday had ended. All the teams were now looking to take home first place and potentially secure the opportunity to advance to Greensboro and keep their season alive. After a full day of matches under the hot sun eight champions were crowned. Those teams who were able to edge out their competition and grab first place were:
