Spring Bob Brantley Publix Challenge Cup names 4 State Champions
South Carolina News
Greenville, SC- Sixteen teams took to the field this past weekend in Greenville with the high hopes of advancing to the 2012 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships in June. The top teams from all over the state, including Greenville, Columbia, Mount Pleasant, Lexington and Spartanburg, in the U13 and U14 age groups came ready for the weekend of competition. In the end only four teams could take the title of Bob Brantley Publix Challenge Cup Champions.
The 16 teams who were able to make it through the first round of games the previous weekend all had high hopes of continuing their success on Saturday morning. Players were anxious for the games to start. All players at every age group have a dream of winning a championship and every team Saturday morning was just TWO games away from accomplishing that goal. The air was full of tension from the players, parents and coaches. Would this be the year that they would win a title?
Championship Sunday brought a new obstacle for our teams playing for a chance to advance to the Region III Championships, rain. Rain came down all day at MeSA from the time games kicked off until the time the last medals and trophies were given to the winners. Those teams who were able to persevere in even the bad weather conditions showed that they deserved to be crowned state champions and advance to Regionals.
