2012 USYS Nationals Wrap Up
South Carolina News
The US Youth Soccer National Championships concluded this past weekend in Rock Hill. The event was given much positive feedback from visitors including what great hospitality they were given and how beautiful the fields were. Congratulations to Discoveries Soccer Club on hosting such a prestigious event so well. SC Youth Soccer had three teams representing us in the National Championships tied for the most among the states from Region III. The three teams: CESA 95B Premier, CESA 95G Premier, and CESA 94G Premier all played hard and showed very competitive results in the tournament.
The CESA 95B Premier lost 2-0 in the U16 National Championship Game in a very close game to Michigan Jaguars 96 Green. Congrats to the CESA 95B Premier for being the second best team in the nation in their age group. Michigan did not lose a game in Regionals or Nationals and were the runners up last year, so there is no shame in losing a hard fought game to them.
The CESA 94G Premier had the toughest schedule in the group. They ended up playing the top 3 finishers in the age group. They finished with a 0-2-1 record playing very tight games with the eventual champions and 2nd place teams. With a few different bounces this team could have found themselves with a better record competing for the title on Sunday. We don’t doubt that next year they can come back even better and do even better on the national stage.
The CESA 95G Premier secured 3rd place in the nation after winning their last game by the margin of 5 goals. Overall they finished 1-1-1 losing only to the eventual National Champions from Virginia. This was another strong finish for an SC team in the National Championships. Though SC is not the largest state we proved we can compete with even the largest states at a high level and that we are here to stay.
