I want to be a soccer coach what are the SC Youth Soccer Coaching Licenses requirements?

Mandatory SC Youth Soccer Coaching Module/License Requirements

  • Recreational Soccer
    • Recreational Coaches U4 – U12 – Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Module
    • Recreational Coaches U13 – U19 – 11 vs. 11 In Person License
  • Jr. Academy Head and Assistant Coaches
    • U9 & U10 – 7 vs. 7 In Person License
    • U11 & U12 – 9 vs. 9 In Person License
  • Open, PMSL and Challenge League
    • Head Coaches – D License
    • Assistant Coaches – 11 vs. 11 In Person License

 

How do I start the US Soccer Coaching Education Pathway?

  1. Create a profile on the US Soccer Digital Coaching Center – dcc.ussoccer.com
  2. Complete the Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Module.
  3. Register using the DCC for an In Person or Online License.

 

I have a US Soccer F and or E License, are these licenses still accepted by SC Youth Soccer?

  • Yes. SC Youth Soccer recognizes the US Soccer F and E licenses as valid licenses.

 

Does the US Soccer F and E License allow me to coach within SC Youth Soccer?

  • Yes. Any coach that possess an F license may coach recreational soccer up to U8.
  • Yes. Any coach that possess an E license may coach recreational soccer up to U13 and or an academy team up to U12.

 

I am interested in taking the D license. How do I become eligible to take that?

  • If you have a validated E license and a profile in the US Soccer Digital Coaching Center to take the D license you will need to complete the Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Module.
  • Once this module is completed you will be eligible to take the D license.
  • If you do not have any US Soccer Coaching Education Licenses you will need to complete the following steps.

 

  1. Create a profile on the US Soccer Digital Coaching Center – dcc.ussoccer.com
  2. Complete the Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Module.
  3. Complete 1 On Line Grassroots Coaching License.
  4. Complete 2 In Person Grassroots Coaching Licenses.
    1. 1 of the In Person Licenses must be the 11 vs. 11 License.
    2. Follow the above steps and you will be eligible to register for the D License.

 

I am new to coaching with SC Youth Soccer. Do I need to have the required licenses before I can coach?

  • No. A coach has a 1 season deferment before needed the required coaching license.
  • Example:  Fall season is the first season. This fall season serves as the deferment season. Coach will need to have the required license before the start of the spring season.

 

I’ve heard that if you played college or professional soccer you can skip the Grassroots Licenses and the D License and start at the C License. Is this true?

  • No this is not true. US Soccer only recognizes professional players that have played at the highest professional level or what they consider division 1. Some examples of this are listed below.
    • MLS
    • Premier League
    • Seria A
    • La Liga
    • Bundesliga
  • If a coach does not meet the above standards they are required to start with the Grassroots Level Licenses.

 

I’ve been a college coach for a number of years but have no US Soccer Licenses. Can I skip the Grassroots Licenses and the D License and start at the C license?

  • No. Unless a coach has coached at the professional division 1 level or has coached at the national team level they are required to start with the Grassroots Licenses.

 

I have a coaching certification from an outside soccer organization. Does SC Youth Soccer recognize these certifications?

  • SC Youth Soccer along with clarification from US Soccer reserves the right to accept or decline any non US Soccer coaching education certification.
